We meet you in Luxor and cross to the west bank: the Valley of the Kings, the terraced temple Hatshepsut built for herself at Deir el-Bahari, and the two seated colossi that are all that remains of Amenhotep's mortuary temple. The night is spent in a Luxor hotel, so that nothing is rushed.
Five Nights, Luxor to Aswan
Luxor · Karnak · Esna · Edfu · Gebel el-Silsila · Kom Ombo · Aswan
The programme, day by day
- 5 nights
- 7 temples
- 1 night ashore in Luxor
The four-night journey asks you to leave Luxor behind on the first morning. This one does not. You arrive the day before, spend a full day on the west bank — the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's terraces, the Colossi — and sleep in a Luxor hotel. Karnak comes the next morning, and only then do we drive to Esna and put you aboard. From there the two journeys are the same river.
Collected from your Luxor hotel every Saturday and driven to the boat at Esna · October to April
Karnak in the morning — the hypostyle hall, the sacred lake, the obelisks — and then south to Esna, where the boat is moored above the lock. Lunch aboard, and we sail in the afternoon.
Edfu early, while it is still quiet. The rest of the day is sailing, with a stop at a village on the bank in the afternoon.
The quarries and rock-cut shrines at Gebel el-Silsila in the morning, then the long reach south to Kom Ombo, which we reach as the light goes.
Into Aswan past the granite islands, and across to Philae in the afternoon. The last night aboard is moored at Aswan.
Breakfast, then on to your hotel, the airport or the station — or to Abu Simbel first, if you would like to add it.
Priced per person, double occupancy. Christmas, New Year and Easter are quoted separately.
